This year's NYC Healthy Teen Relationship Conference will be held on May 11th! We are looking for powerful youth-centered workshops that focus on our theme:
We are more digitally connected than ever before. We facebook, text, tweet, google chat, email and skype one another with a simple click. This has led to an amazing increase in human connection and interaction, but it has also opened a new realm to perpetuate unhealthy or abusive behaviors. Furthermore, this digital age has provided us with more access to information on people's lives around the world, yet young people seldom see models of healthy relationships and often exclaim that a healthy relationship is "impossible" to achieve. We rarely have models on how to stand up and be an "up-stander" when we see abuse or violence on-line. This conference will create a space for young people to build their skills and become advocates for healthy relationships in and outside of cyber space.
Please click here if you'd like to submit a workshop proposal!!!

10 Things You Can Do
1. Understand Intersections of Violence Against Women (VAW) like Domestic Violence
VAW is internationally defined as any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivations of liberty, whether occurring in public or private life. This means VAW can include sexual, economic, spiritual, reproductive, and domestic violence, to name a few. The results of VAW can be deadly, like it was for the 12 women of NYC who were murdered by way of Domestic Violence.
Domestic Violence (DV) also known as Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) or Interpersonal Violence (IV) is about maintaining power and control over another. Abused persons live in a controlling environment, feels fear and often "walks on eggshells". An abusive woman can often develop low self-esteem, face difficulty communicating her abuse, and/or is afraid of losing her partner.

"De
nim Day" was coined for a 1992 Italian court case, in which the Chief Judge argued, "because the victim wore very, very tight jeans, she had to help him remove them, and by removing the jeans, it was no longer rape but consensual sex." This verdict enraged female members of Italy's Parliament who wore jeans in protest, and "Denim Day" was born.
You can participate in Denim Day by going to an event to speak out against sexual assault. Day One is proud to partner with the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault and Start Strong Bronx in collaborative efforts to raise awareness across the city.
Day One staff members are proudly wearing jeans on this important day to show solidarity with survivors of sexual violence and dating abuse.
Check out these events going on all across the city today!
