Community Education Reaches More Youth in 2011

Day One would like to congratulate our Community Educator Claudia Martinez for reaching 4,357 young people and adults last year through her workshops in all five boroughs of New York City. This is an impressive 42% increase of people reached in just one year! Thank you for all your hard work Claudia!

Day One Staff Present Youth-centered Model for New York State Domestic Violence Service Provider Conference 

Program Director and attorney Margarita Guzman and Social Worker Michele Paolella gave presentations on youth intimate partner violence at "Advocates in Court: An Interdisciplinary Toolkit", a conference exclusively for collaborative models that combine legal and social service in intimate partner violence (IPV) interventions sponsored by the New York State Victims' Assistance Academy. Margarita and Michele presented on the model used by Day One in tackling teen dating violence specifically and other speakers addressed models for IPV in other populations such as immigrant and LGBTQ communities.

Staff Attorney Trains Bronx Court Personnel on Technology Abuse

Staff Attorney Ian Harris gave a training to the Bronx County Gender Fairness Committee entitled "Documenting Technological Abuse: From Intake to Admission into Evidence." The Committee is composed of judges, lawyers and court personnel in the Bronx, particularly, criminal court judges and representatives from the Bronx County district attorney's office.
