Summer Peer Leaders Make an Impact

answer the question "What is love?"

Day One's Peer Leaders are hard at work this summer. Led by Peer Leadership Coordinator Joy Conway, Sam, Elsie, Dina, Jamila, Amira, and Amrita have joined Day One in efforts to raise awareness about dating abuse among youth. Following leadership and issue-based training, the Peer Leaders are producing video, collage, interactive theater and a blog to spread the word about youth dating abuse.

The Peer Leaders have also taken to the streets!  The group is engaging people at various public spaces in discussions about healthy relationships and what love is. (See image on the left.)

In addition, the Peer Leadership Program is collaborating with Groundswell Community Mural Project this summer. Groundswell is a Brooklyn-based organization that brings together artists, youth and community organizations to use art as a tool for social change. Day One is proud to join forces with Groundswell's youth by providing training and information about dating abuse among youth as they bring awareness of the issue through public art. The collaboration will produce posters and other web-based awareness materials for distribution at schools citywide
