Day One is proud to announce the addition of counseling to the array of assistance we offer young survivors of dating abuse. This month, our new colleague, Michele Paolella, MSW, will begin providing crisis intervention, mental health counseling and case management to young people 24 years of age and under.
Funded by a grant from
the U.S. Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women, our new project will include specialized outreach to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender / gender non-conforming, questioning / queer (LGBTQ) youth experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV). In partnership with the Ali Forney Center and the Anti-Violence Project, Day One will deliver new services to young survivors, with a particular focus on an underserved part of our community.
This combination of services will build on our existing work with youth – reaching teens with information about teen dating violence, its warnings signs and their legal rights with regard to the issue. Day One is thrilled to now offer counseling in conjunction with existing legal help, making it simpler for young victims of dating violence to get the full range of services that can lead them to recovery.
