April 27th is Denim Day
Day One is proud to partner with the New York City Alliance against Sexual Assault, Start Strong Bronx and advocates from all five boroughs to support safe and healthy relationships for all.
"Denim Day" was started in the United States 11 years ago by Start Strong Los Angeles. This day was coined for a 1992 Italian court case, in which the Chief Judge argued, "because the victim wore very, very tight jeans, she had to help him remove them, and by removing the jeans it was no longer rape but consensual sex." This verdict enraged female members of Italy's Parliament, who wore jeans in protest, and "Denim Day" was born.
Day One staff members are proud to show solidarity with survivors of sexual assault and dating violence by wearing jeans on this important day.Click here to find out about how you can get involved with Denim Day.
