Peer Leader Model Gets National Attention
Peer Leadership Coordinator, Joy Marie Conway, presented at the annual American College Personnel Association Convention in Baltimore this March. At the gathering of nationwide college professionals, Joy discussed strategies for using art to engage college students in activism. Last semester, Joy led Day One's Peer Leaders in launching "It Happens Here," an innovative, youth-led workshop merging graphic art and a domestic violence curriculum.
Diverse: Issues in Higher Education
After the death of University of Virginia student Yeardley Love at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, George Huguely, another UVA student, colleges are making sure they can address dating violence on campus. Jean Sung, Day One's Youth Voices Network Coordinator, offered her perspective in the magazine Diverse: Issues in Education. The article, "Helping College Students Stay Safe While Dating", looks at how colleges and universities are partnering with organizations to curb dating violence among students.
