Community Education Expands Curriculum

Day One welcomes our new Community Educator, Claudia Martinez, who will be implementing a new, expanded curriculum this year to include multi-session instruction. Claudia has been refining our program to examine dating abuse from different perspectives - its origins as well as its many manifestations.

Day One has been focusing on strengthening our curriculum so that the many facets of dating violence can be understood by the broad spectrum of young people living in New York City. Multi-session workshops will include curricula addressing the function of gender roles in abusive relationships, the various intersections of identity in abusive relationships, as well as the legal responses and resources available to survivors. Rounding out the curricula is an art-based module that will allow students to more actively consider language and imagery and how they impact awareness of dating abuse.

Claudia will be scheduling multi-session workshops this summer and for the upcoming fall semester. If you have any questions, or would like to schedule a multi-session workshop for your school or organization, please contact Claudia at educator@dayoneny.org.
