2nd Annual NYC Healthy Teen Relationships Conference

The second annual New York City Healthy Teen Relationships Conference took place on Friday, May 21. The theme of this year's conference was "Transforming Media Into Action," and Day One convened three workshops during the day, contributing and our staff and volunteer expertise to the issue of teen dating violence.

Youth Voices members, Karin, Lindsey, Katie and Jean spoke on a survivor panel moderated by Day One's Peer Leadership Coordinator, Joy. YVN members shared their stories and spoke about the importance of raising awareness and speaking out against teen relationship abuse.

Day One Staff Attorney, Ian, presented a workshop to inform participants about dating abuse in the digital age. Day One's presentations about digital abuse ensure that both young people and adults are made aware of the risks of using new media such as cell phones, texting, and social networking websites like Facebook.

Additionally, leaders of The GlassBook Project presented a workshop for participants to create their own GlassBook on the aftermath of domestic violence. The GlassBook Project is a nation-wide, university-based program that brings survivors of trauma together with students to create art that addresses specific responses to incidents of trauma that are often misunderstood. The workshop focused on allowing participants to better understand survivors' experiences and to create works of art that displayed that understanding. Some GlassBooks inspired by stories from Youth Voices Network members were also exhibited at the event. Check out our website to see images from the collection.

Congratulations to the Healthy Teen Relationships Coalition on another successful conference!
