Youth Voices Network in the News

With the recent publicity surrounding pop star Rihanna, Day One's Youth Voices Network (a coalition of teen dating violence survivors) has been encouraging dialogue on teen dating violence. Three Youth Voices members – Jean, Gabrielle and Lauren – were featured last month on a Good Morning Americasegment about teen dating violence. Each shared her experience and her reaction to Rihanna's public statements.  "I grew up seeing domestic violence. And I told myself that would never be me. And then I ended up in an abusive relationship. It's really the difference between knowing what a healthy relationship and what an unhealthy relationship is," said Gabrielle, 17.

Additionally, five Youth Voices members were filmed by Glamour Magazine for a tribute video that was presented at Carnegie Hall where Rihanna was honored with a 2009 Glamour Woman of the Year Award. Youth Voices proudly represented Day One at the red carpet event on November 9, 2009.
