2009 Benefit to End Domestic Violence Among Youth

Day One's supporters turned out on October 13th to make the 2009 benefit our most successful to date.  Emcee Tamron Hall took a break from her Anchor job at MSNBC to host the evening and conduct a live auction.  The event raised over $150,000 to support preventive and direct services for young people, and celebrated Day One's success in reaching more than 20,000 young people in the past six years.

Guests heard the compelling stories of young survivors in Day One's mini-documentary film, which premiered that night, and applauded former legal services client, Virginia Lee, 22, who received a Youth Leadership Award.  Virginia shared her emotional story, which demonstrated her courage and strength throughout a long court process following a four-year violent relationship.  A former college intern with the organization, José Cruz received Day One's second Youth Leadership Award for his energy and activism in building awareness about teen dating violence.

Day One's 2009 Visionary Award was presented to the law firm of Greenberg Traurig LLP for their history of groundbreaking work in the area of domestic violence and their support of Day One. Guests enjoyed live jazz, a raffle and silent auction.  Two of our bidders took home spectacular live auction packages, including a week long vacation in the Caribbean and a backstage tour of the set of 30 Rock along with a signed script and other bonus items.  Thank you to all of our sponsors, volunteers and the 200+ donors and guests who gathered at The Bowery Hotel to help make the 2009 benefit an enormous success!
