NEW YORK STATE'S EXPANDED PROTECTIONS FOR SURVIVORS OF DATING ABUSE

As of July 2008, New York State extended access to civil Orders of Protection to domestic violence victims in dating relationships.  Since 2004, Day One advocated to grant the same legal protection to all victims of relationship abuse. Day One celebrates this achievement with the many advocates who have been working on this issue for two decades. On behalf of the young survivors we assist, we thank the many legislators whose efforts contributed to this success, including Governor David A. Paterson, Assembly Member Helene E. Weinstein, Senator George H. Winner, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and others.
