NYC Healthy Teen Relationship Conference

On April 2, 2009 over 200 teens and service providers attended the N.Y.C. Healthy Teen Relationships Conference. The event offered a number of workshops that explored the many aspects of teen relationships. Encouraging youth and professionals to learn from each other and work together, the conference provided a safe space and promoted positive messages about healthy relationships. Workshops included "Media, Culture and Violence," "Adult-Teen Relationships" and "Empowering Bystanders to Prevent Gender Violence."

This was the first conference of its kind in over a decade, and twice as many youth and providers applied for pre-registration than there were available seats. The tremendous interest demonstrates the need for more training and services focused on teen dating abuse. The conference was held at the ACS Children's Center and was organized by Day One, Children's Aid Society, Center against Domestic Violence, Kings County District Attorney's Office, Legal Momentum, Men Can Stop Rape, Safe Horizon, and Steps to End Family Violence.

Planning is underway for the 2010 conference.
