Become a Peer Leader

In a 2005 study of incoming freshmen at a New York City public college, more than 50% of students indicated that a close peer was involved in a violent relationship in the past year.

Day One's Peer Leadership Program mobilizes youth to raise awareness of domestic violence in their communities. Through projects designed and developed by the students themselves, the Peer Leadership Program enables young people to become leaders in the movement to end domestic violence by training them to advocate, educate their peers about relationship abuse, and learn about resources in their communities.

Peer Leaders become involved in a range of activities, including...

  • organizing student groups
  • research and writing
  • conducting classroom presentations for teens and their peers about intimate partner violence
  • advocating with administrators and policymakers on matters relevant to youth
  • planning school-based and community outreach events
