DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE
As the Development and Communications Associate, Gayle handles publicity and outreach for the organization, updates and maintains Day One's website, Twitter, Facebook and other social media accounts. She developed the organization's weekly "Teen Dating Abuse in the News" email, a round-up of the each week's news on dating and domestic violence. She also designs and publishes the organization's quarterly newsletter. She coordinates the activities of the Associate Board and serves as liaison with the Youth Voices Network. She also supervises interns and assists the Executive Director in other resource development projects.
Gayle has a background in corporate and entertainment public relations and marketing, working for firms such as The Walt Disney Company, GlaxoSmithKline and Turner Broadcasting. Seeking a change, she moved from Los Angeles to New York and enrolled in graduate school, resolving to enter the field of nonprofit communications. Gayle began volunteering with Day One during graduate school and joined the organization following her graduation.
Gayle graduated cum laude with a BA in Communication Studies and a minor in Anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles. She received her MA in Media, Culture and Communication with a focus on Technology and Society from New York University and was awarded with the Samuel Eshborn Service Award upon graduation. She is actively involved in academic research, having assisted several professors and projects and written a thesis on primetime network comedy as an undergraduate. She also presented at conferences during her graduate career at MIT in Cambridge, MA and Howard University in Washington, D.C. and wrote her thesis on the impact of a corporation of U.S. Internet freedom policy. She was a freelance reporter for the Filipino-American newspaper, Asian Journal in Los Angeles and its sister magazine Balikbayan. Gayle was born and raised in Manila, Philippines.
