Peer Leadership

In a 2005 study of incoming freshmen at a New York City public college, more than 50% of students indicated that a close peer was involved in a violent relationship in the past year.

Day One's Peer Leadership Program mobilizes youth to raise awareness of domestic violence in their communities. Students on local campuses develop self-sustaining groups that raise awareness of relationship violence among college-age youth, develop campus-based resources and design activities to educate others about dating abuse and domestic violence.

The Peer Leadership Program enables young people to become leaders in the movement to end domestic violence by training them to advocate, educate their peers about relationship abuse and learn about resources in their communities. By targeting a wide-range of campus associations and groups, Day One publicizes resources for individuals in need and reduces the overall tolerance for violence on campus.
