peerleadership@dayoneny.org

As Peer Leadership Coordinator, Joy works in collaboration with college-age students to raise awareness about domestic violence in their communities. Through the Peer Leadership program student interns are equipped with support, training and mentorship to successfully activate change within society.

Joy has been working as an educator for five years, facilitating learning experiences for use within and without the classroom walls. She is a teaching artist and often utilizes dance, creative writing and visual art to engage a given topic. She has a background in curriculum design and workshop facilitation in the areas of social justice, LGBTQA ally development, and women's leadership among college-age youth. Her belief is that art, education and healthy relationships can be powerfully transformative tools for self actualization.

Prior to joining Day One, Joy worked as a teaching artist with Free Street Theater in Chicago and as a Diversity and Social Justice Coordinator with the Department of Student Diversity and Multi-cultural Affairs at Loyola University Chicago. Joy earned a Master of Education Degree from Loyola University Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from DePauw University in Sociology and Anthropology.
