Youth Voices Network LAUNCH PARTY
On Sunday, August 12, Day One's Youth Voices Network held its inaugural event at the Delancey's rooftop garden. Attendees enjoyed complimentary hors d'oeuvres & cake as they toasted the efforts for change of Youth Voices Network's young survivors of dating abuse.
Summer in the City
On June 12, 2007, Day One held its annual fundraising
benefit: Summer
in the City! For the second year, the cocktail party was held at the
waterside venue, Battery Gardens, inside Battery Park. We honored youth
leaders and community members engaged in courageous and groundbreaking
work in the fight against dating abuse and domestic violence.

Cocktails for a Cause: Thank you for joining us for cocktails on Wednesday November 29, 2006 at Butterfield 8 in midtown Manhattan. Guests enjoyed Skyy vodka drinks, hors d’oeuvres and desserts and learned about Day One’s important mission! All proceeds supported Day One’s work partnering with youth to end dating abuse and domestic violence.

Summer Gala: At this year’s Summer Gala, Day One was proud to award Byron Hurt our first Visionary Award. Byron Hurt, a former college football quarterback and long-time gender violence prevention educator, is the producer and director of ‘Beyond Beats and Rhymes: A Hip-Hop Head Weighs in on Manhood in Rap Music’ a riveting PBS documentary selected for the 2006 Sundance Film Festival that examines representations of manhood, sexism and homophobia in Hip-Hop culture. We were also pleased to present our Role Model Award to Atoosa Rubenstein, Editor-in-Chief of Seventeen. At the event, Ms. Rubenstein spoke eloquently about the need to empower girls and about her own experience in an abusive relationship as a young woman. The evening was emceed by Dana Tyler and Jim Rosenfield, Co-Anchors of CBS 2 News. Guests were moved by the speeches given by Day One’s two youth honorees, Ja Ja Johnson and Jean Sung, whose efforts on behalf of other youth are a continuing inspiration to us all.
Choose Respect: This summer, Day One was proud to join the New York Liberty in hosting more than 800 young people at special Choose Respect events to promote healthy and safe relationships for youth. At Madison Square Garden, young people attended basketball games and special pre- and post-game activities. Liberty players joined adolescents and teens at a special outdoor launch event for a shooting contest and celebration of the Choose Respect initiative. Day One launched its Choose Respect activities at the renowned West 4th Street Basketball Courts on June 20th with an outdoor free-throw contest and shooting clinic with Liberty team members Ashley Battle and Kelly Schumacher. Guests enjoyed free samples of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream and musical entertainment provided by DJ Déjà Vu from Power 105.1. Young people received promotional and educational giveaways from Day One, Choose Respect, the New York Liberty, Lifetime Television, Liz Claiborne and The Avon Foundation. On Wednesday, June 21st and Sunday, August 13, thDay One hosted hundreds more young people at New York Liberty home games where guests sat in special Choose Respect sections and received specially designed Choose Respect t-shirts. Events were supported by Liz Claiborne Inc., Lifetime Television and the Avon Foundation
